His Excellency Mr Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Dear Mr President,
On behalf of my fellow countrymen and on my own behalf, I extend to you and your citizens my heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of the Republic Day, which is celebrated on May 28.
Last year we marked the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Germany.
The year 2018 also marks an important anniversary: two hundred years ago, the first German immigrants arrived in Azerbaijan. This bears evidence to the deep roots that unite our countries. Germany will continue to make efforts to strengthen ties with Azerbaijan and speed up our cooperation.
Along with our economic interests, we also want to develop political dialogue particularly in the field of energy and to enhance cultural cooperation. We want to establish relations between the European Union and your country in a dimension based on a new agreement.
It is desirable that we continue our cooperation within the Council of Europe and the OSCE.
I extend my best regards to you and wish the people of Azerbaijan peace, tranquility and prosperity.
