From Milo Dukanovic, President of Montenegro

His Excellency Mr Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan

Dear Mr President,

On behalf of citizens of Montenegro and on my own behalf, I extend my sincerest congratulations to you on the occasion of the national day of the Republic of Azerbaijan, 100th anniversary of the establishment of the first independent state of Azerbaijan.

The dreams of the great Azerbaijani people’s generation of that time to have a state of their own found their embodiment in the restoration of independence 27 years ago. Your father, great statesman Heydar Aliyev played an indispensable role in restoring state independence, and for several years now you have also made a great contribution to the modern development of your country.

Somehow, there are similarities in the historical destinies of our peoples and countries. Montenegro became an independent state for the first time 140 years ago. I think that we can be proud of today’s level of solid friendship and cooperation, based on mutual interests, between Montenegro and Azerbaijan. We can also contribute to further development and modernization of our bilateral relations in our high state posts.

I am looking forward to our next meetings.
