In Davos, Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Gitanas Nauseda, President of the Republic of Lithuania.
During the meeting, the President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, recalled with pleasure his visit to Azerbaijan last year, saying that he and President Ilham Aliyev had extensive conversations on the development of bilateral relations between the two countries. President Gitanas Nauseda extended an invitation to visit Lithuania to President Ilham Aliyev.
President Ilham Aliyev accepted the invitation with pleasure and stressed the significance of the Lithuanian President's visit to Azerbaijan.
During the talk, the parties shared opinions on regional issues, the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, negotiations for a peace agreement, and developments on the Lachin-Khankandi road.
The head of state stated that Armenia is manipulating the events on the Lachin road in order to mislead the international community, claiming that the road is closed based on false information. President Ilham Aliyev stated that the road is open to the passage of civilians and civilian goods, and that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is ensuring the free transit of humanitarian items.
President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the significance of halting the illicit exploitation of Azerbaijan's natural resources on its territory, where a Russian peacekeeping contingent is temporarily deployed, and removing criminal elements from the region.
The Azerbaijani President stated that Armenia has utilized the Lachin route to transfer mines, weapons, and personnel for more than two years.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed Azerbaijan's relations with the European Union. They emphasized the significance of the trilateral format between the European Union, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, formed with the support of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, in advancing the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
During the conversation, all parties emphasized the importance of Azerbaijan to Europe's energy security. In this regard, they stressed the significance of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary's green energy development and transmission agreement agreed upon in Bucharest last December.
