Ilham Aliyev received President of FC Barcelona

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Joan Laporta, President of FC Barcelona, on March 1.

Expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome, FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta recalled his first visit to Azerbaijan during COP29. He shared how deeply impressed he was by Baku’s development. Highlighting the great potential for collaboration in Azerbaijan, Laporta noted that this was precisely why he returned for a second visit in such a short time.

The discussions highlighted the government's support for the development of sports in Azerbaijan, particularly football. It was noted that the country successfully hosts prestigious international sports competitions and world-class football matches in accordance with the highest standards.

During the meeting, it was mentioned that a document on the establishment of the Barcelona Football Academy in Azerbaijan would be signed. The sides also exchanged views on the future activities of the academy and cooperation in the development of children's football in Azerbaijan.
