President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received the Deputy Director of the Middle East and Central Department of the International Monetary Fund, Juha Kähkönen.

Noting that the organization he represents was interested in cooperating with Azerbaijan, Juha Kähkönen expressed his satisfaction with the fact that Azerbaijan was one of the fastest growing economies in the world and pointed to the importance of the non-oil sector for the country.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stressed that a lot was being done to reduce the economy's dependence on the oil and gas sector. Indicating that the non-oil sector grew by 10 per cent last year, the President described this as a result of the successful programs being implemented in the fields of information and communication technology, industry, agriculture and other areas of the country.

The sides exchanged views on issues relating to the prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the International Monetary Fund.
