President Ilham Aliyev has received NATO Assistant Secretary General Gabor Iklody.
The head of state noted that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO was developing successfully. Recalling with satisfaction his own visit to Brussels and the visit of NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen to Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev stressed the importance of the discussions held during the visits from the standpoint of enhancement of cooperation. The President expressed his confidence that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO would be continued in the future. Touching upon the successful activity of Azerbaijani troops in the international peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan, President Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijan could also promote the cause of peace and stability in Afghanistan through education, exchange of experience and in other areas.
NATO Assistant Secretary General Gabor Iklody stressed the importance of the conference on the subject of "Emerging Security Challenges: expansion of energy security in the 21st century" being held in Baku. Noting that the cooperation between NATO and Azerbaijan had developed further in recent years, the guest expressed his appreciation to the head of state for the successful service of the Azerbaijani troops in the international peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan and Azerbaijan's support for the International Security Assistance Force. He also praised Azerbaijan's position on the issue of participation in the NATO mission in Afghanistan after 2014.
The sides exchanged views on ways of enhancing cooperation in the field of energy security, nuclear non-proliferation, counter-terrorism, etc.
