President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received President of the International Chess Federation Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

Touching upon the significance of the active introduction of the "Chess in Schools" program in Azerbaijan, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov noted the importance of the adoption in 2009 of the state program on the development of chess in Azerbaijan by a decree of President Ilham Aliyev. He praised the state care about the development of chess in Azerbaijan. The president of the International Chess Federation described the victory of Shahriyar Mammadyarov in the first world championship in rapid chess held in the Russian city of Khanty-Mansiysk Russia as a good indicator of the development of chess in Azerbaijan.

The President of Azerbaijan expressed his confidence that the "Chess in Schools" program would be continued in Azerbaijan. Pointing to the successful development of chess in the country, President Ilham Aliyev said that chess schools were being restored in all the cities of Azerbaijan. Noting that preparations for the International Chess Festival “Baku Open-2013” were under way in the country, President Ilham Aliyev thanked the President of the International Chess Federation, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, for supporting the initiatives of Azerbaijan.
