President Ilham Aliyev has received the founder and chief executive officer of the Stratfor private intelligence corporation, George Friedman.

The head of state expressed his satisfaction with the fact that George Friedman was visiting Azerbaijan again.

The founder, chief executive officer and senior analyst of the Stratfor private intelligence corporation, George Friedman, presented the head of state with his book, “The Next Decade”, which dwells upon changes in global politics. It contains the author’s views on Azerbaijan’s leading role in the region. George Friedman said he would travel to Nakhchivan during this visit to examine the socioeconomic projects under way in the autonomous republic.

Saying that Nakhchivan is one of Azerbaijan’s ancient historical regions, President Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijanis had historically lived on all these territories, but then the Zangezur Mahal was passed on to Armenia and Nakhchivan was cut off from the rest of Azerbaijan. The head of state stressed that major investment was being made in the autonomous republic, and that important social and infrastructure projects were under way there. President Ilham Aliyev expressed hope that a trip to Nakhchivan, a region rich in historical sites, would prove interesting for the guest.

The sides also exchanged views on bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the USA, regional issues, geopolitical situation, energy cooperation and other matters.
