Ilham Aliyev received permanent representatives of a number of UN member-states

President Ilham Aliyev has received permanent representatives of a number of UN member-states.

President Ilham Aliyev pointed to the importance of this visit for delegation members from the standpoint of a closer familiarization with Azerbaijan and assistance in the expansion of bilateral relations. The head of state said Azerbaijan had good relations with the countries represented in the UN. Stressing a good level of Azerbaijan’s political relations with the countries represented by members of the delegation, President Ilham Aliyev pointed to the importance of expanding economic relations with them in the future. The President stated that Azerbaijan was a rapidly developing country and that mutual investment could yield positive results. He added that Azerbaijan had a powerful economic potential and could invest major resources in various continents, so these opportunities could be explored during the visit. President Ilham Aliyev expressed his confidence that a visit to an Azerbaijani region would help the delegation create a good impression about out country.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the permanent representative of Gambia in the UN, Susan Waffa-Ogoo, said it was a pleasure to come to Azerbaijan. After thanking President Ilham Aliyev for the meeting, the diplomat gave a high assessment to the activities of Azerbaijan’s permanent representative office in the UN. “It is possible to obtain information about Azerbaijan without coming here, but we will have the direct opportunity to receive detailed data on Azerbaijan during the visit,” the UN representative said. She said such visits were important from the standpoint of exploring various cooperation opportunities.

President Ilham Aliyev pointed to the need for an opinion exchange on bilateral relations. “For that, we have political relations,” the President said and emphasized that bilateral relations should expand in the economic sector too. Noting that Azerbaijan could do a lot in that respect, the head of state said the country was always seeking ways for a more effective use of investment opportunities. President Ilham Aliyev also pointed to the need for expanding relations in the international format.

The head of state informed members of the delegation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. He said there were four resolutions and decisions of the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly and other international organizations demanding an unconditional withdrawal of Armenian occupiers from Azerbaijani lands. Expressing his disappointment that the documents remain on paper, President Ilham Aliyev stressed that it was necessary to work together to create a mechanism for the fulfillment of such decisions. The President said countries should be sensitive to each other’s problems and help one another. Highlighting that Azerbaijan was an open country, President Ilham Aliyev said its representative office in the UN was working hard to establish better relations between peoples and countries.

The President of Azerbaijan asked members of the delegation to pass his greetings on to the heads of state and government of their respective countries, and invited them to visit Azerbaijan at their convenience.
