Ilham Aliyev received the Vice President of the European Commission

President Ilham Aliyev has received a delegation led by the Vice President of the European Commission and European Union's High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton.

The President indicated that cooperation between the European Union and Azerbaijan had a broad format and was successfully developing. Recalling his meeting with Mrs. Ashton in Warsaw, President Aliyev said it was important for both the whole region and for Azerbaijan that she was paying a visit to the region such a short time after that meeting. The head of state expressed his confidence that this visit by Mrs. Catherine Ashton would contribute to a further development of relations between Azerbaijan and European Union.

The Vice President of the European Commission and European Union's High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, expressed her satisfaction with the visit to Azerbaijan.

The sides also discussed prospects for energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU and exchanged views on ways of resolving the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.
